How do I bring in many galleries at once?
Moving from Pass or Pic-Time? Choose the folder that holds your galleries: each folder in it becomes a draft gallery, with its sections, its date and its old link.
Get the folders ready
- One folder holds them all, with a folder for each gallery inside it. Folders inside a gallery's folder become its sections, as when you add a folder to one gallery; photos straight in it go in without a section.
- Name each gallery's folder after the gallery. A date at the start or the end, like
2024-06-14 Emma & LucaorEmma & Luca 14.06.2024, becomes the gallery's date; underscores and dashes between words become spaces. - Numbered section folders keep their order, and the numbers stay out of the gallery:
01 Getting ready,2. Ceremonyand(3) Partybecome Getting ready, Ceremony and Party, in that order. A number that's part of the name stays, as in1920s Party, and so do the numbers of two folders that would otherwise share a name, like01 Ceremonyand02 Ceremony. - From Pass or Pic-Time, download each gallery and unzip it first: the folders go in, not the ZIP files. Put each unzipped gallery in the one top folder, with its scene folders inside it.
- A gallery that came in several ZIP files can be unzipped side by side: folders named like
Emma & Luca (1 of 3)andEmma & Luca (2 of 3)come in as one gallery. - Pic-Time names a gallery's ZIP files after the gallery and the scenes in each. Unzipped side by side, folders like
Daria & Vladimir - Ceremony, PortraitsandDaria & Vladimir - Partycome in as one gallery, Daria & Vladimir: the scene folders inside them become its sections, photos straight in a folder go into the section its name ends with, and a scene that's in two ZIP files comes together. A gallery whose name merely has a dash, likeEmma & Luca - Sintra, keeps its name. - Photos (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIC, WebP, AVIF) and films (MP4 and MOV, up to 10 GB) go in. Everything else stays out and is counted on the list: system files like .DS_Store, RAW files, .xmp sidecars, PDFs.
Bring them in
Choose the brand in the sidebar first: the galleries go into the brand chosen there.
In the sidebar, under Studio, open Move galleries in. While your galleries list is still empty, Bring in many galleries on Galleries opens it too.
Drop the top folder anywhere on the page, or press Choose the folder. In Chrome and Edge, allow the page to view the folder when the browser asks.
Check the list: one row per gallery, with its name, date, sections, photos and size. Change a name or a date, or untick a gallery to leave it out. Where a folder's name has no date, it's read from the first photos.
A gallery made from several folders says so under its name, like From 3 folders. If they're really separate galleries, press Make a gallery of each; Make them one gallery, under any of them, puts them back.
Pick the Preset for all of them and the Order: Newest first brings in first the galleries couples are most likely to open.
Press the button that counts the galleries and their size, like Bring in 80 galleries · 53 GB.
Old links
- Paste a gallery's old address into its Old link field:
…/-emma-luca/galleryfrom Pass, or…/client/emma-luca/gallery?…from a Pic-Time invitation. - The new gallery takes the old link's name when it's free, and keeps the old name either way, so the old address leads to it even if you rename the link later.
- Old links open the new galleries at your own domain, once it's connected on the Domain page and switched on, and once each gallery is published: a draft answers “Gallery not found”. Links at pic-time.com or passgallery.com themselves stop with those services.
While they come in
- One gallery at a time is made and filled, by the same upload as a single gallery. One line says how far it got, like Gallery 12 of 80 · 4,120 of 15,300 files · 18 GB of 53 GB · about 3 h left, above a list of the galleries with a tick for each one that's in.
- Pause lets the photos on their way finish; Carry on picks up where it stopped.
- Keep the tab open until they're all in; other tabs and windows are fine. While the page is on screen, it keeps the computer awake where the browser allows.
- A gallery whose files didn't all go in says how many and why, with Try again; the others carry on. If two galleries in a row don't go in at all, it pauses and says why.
Carry on after a stop
- Closed the tab, lost the connection, or the computer slept? Under Studio, open Move galleries in again and press Carry on. Galleries already in are skipped, and so are photos already in a gallery.
- Chrome and Edge keep the folder, so Carry on is all it takes (the browser may ask to allow the folder again). In Safari and Firefox, choose or drop the same folder again.
- Start over forgets the import. Galleries it brought in stay as they are.
When they're in
Every gallery is a private draft: nobody sees it until you publish it. Open each one from the list with Open ↗, look it over, and press Publish… at the top of its page.
Why isn’t it working?
- Each section came in as a gallery of its own
- The folder chosen was one wedding, not the folder that holds the weddings; the list says so when its galleries are called Ceremony, Portraits and the like. Choose the folder above it, or use New gallery for one gallery.
- Two galleries came in as one
- Folders with the same name before a dash, like
Emma & Luca - EngagementandEmma & Luca - Wedding, read as one gallery's ZIP files. Press Make a gallery of each under its name on the list. - A gallery's ZIP files came in as separate galleries
- Their folders need the same name before the dash, as Pic-Time names them, and the same date if they have one. Rename the folders to match, then press Choose another folder and choose the same folder again.
- An old link opens another gallery
- Another gallery has the same name in its link. Change one of them with Change the name on its Share tab.
- My phone won't choose the folder
- Bringing in many galleries needs a computer: phones hand over single photos, not folders.
